MANAGE XAPI OVERVIEW

INTRODUCTION

xAPI (Tincan) is an eLearning specification that makes it possible to collect data about the wide range of experiences a student has within online and offline training activities. xAPI’s use of a shared format for both the receiving and sending of data makes xAPI an ideal tool for sharing learning between multiple systems. Use xAPI in lieu of SCORM.

Integrate C4EBridge with an xAPI (Tin Can) service. Manage your xAPI competencies and activities, your HTML5 Content, as well as uploaded and linked Articulate, Adobe Captivate, iSpring or Lectora e-learning courses.

SCORM VS xAPI

SCORM is one standard that requires that your students only learn within your LMS. If the student is not logged into the LMS, they can not use SCORM content (with the exception of a few custom SCORM course players built for specific LMS systems).

SCORM will not allow your students to learn offline or record date/time or URL if they found an answer on a website.

SCORM requires that you store learning records in your local LMS database (except for some custom LMS systems) and then only allows you to report on part of that data, not all of it. Reporting is the main challenge in SCORM and the primary reason xAPI was developed.

xAPI packages in C4EBridge send as little or as much reporting data to an LRS as you wish.

BENEFITS OF xAPI

The ability to report to the LRS through xAPI (Tin Can) from any of the following content types:
  • C4EBridge courses, lessons, quizzes and quiz questions
  • Uploaded elearning courses built with authoring tools such as, but not limited to, Aticulate Storyline 360, Storyline 2, Studio 2, Studio 360, Captivate, Lectora, iSpring and any other product that produces an xAPI 1.0 or above outputted ZIP file
  • HTML5 content (rich interactive content) for tracking videos, video interactions, and any H5P content that send a completion status
  • YouTube and Vimeo native Embed Video URLs (embedded in Lessons) as well as YouTube and Vimeo URLs added into the post content

COMPETENCY MANAGEMENT:

  • Create your own custom competencies and assign them to any course, lesson, quiz or question
  • Assign your competencies to any xAPI content (including uploaded or linked content)
  • Assign your competencies to ADL activity ID’s for each content type listed above

REPORTING:

  • Create your own reports in our LRS
  • Make your LRS Reporting data more readable
  • Visualize your reporting data in our LRS
  • Export your reports from our LRS
  • Turn on or off reporting for each course, lesson, quiz, question or uploaded or linked e-learning course in C4EBridge.

LEARNING RECORD SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The Learning Record System (LRS) is the heart of any xAPI ecosystem, receiving, storing and returning xAPI statements. C4EBridge comes with an LRS. Every other tool which sends or retrieves learning activity data will interact with the LRS as the central store.

The LRS, as defined by the xAPI specification, is “a server (i.e. system capable of receiving and processing web requests) that is responsible for receiving, storing, and providing access to Learning Records.” Taking this a step farther, the LRS is designed to enable systems to store and retrieve xAPI statements, store xAPI state, and store various other xAPI metadata from other systems. When considering what an LRS actually is, it’s important to remember that the S stands for STORE, meaning that the most basic function of an LRS is to store and make available xAPI statements.
